We examine the physiological and psychological impacts of natural environments, using behavioral tasks alongside psychophysiological measures such as EEG, ECG/heart rate variability, and pupillometry to capture what happens in the body and brain during and after time in nature.
We investigate whether regular exposure to nature — including through emerging tools like virtual reality — can help preserve cognitive function as people age.
Much of our work sits at the intersection of affective and cognitive neuroscience, asking how emotional states shape attention, error-processing, and working memory — and how nature might change that relationship.
Understanding that nature helps is only half the picture. We study how to design nature interventions — dose, setting, format — to best improve cognition and mental health, and how to translate that science into practice with partner organizations.
